The way this author writes was very different from anything I have read before. I was intrigued by the descriptive words used by the author and the way the book was set up with the pictures was also interesting to me. Each page design in The Veldt aided the reader in their visual of the story in a unique way. It was not your average book where the pictures were of characters depicting the actions described by the story, but the minimalist pictures aided in the visual storytelling in a great way.

Both stories depict a dystopian world where technology is the center of our lives, and the author tells a tale of what happens when technology becomes too controlling. When written a few years ago (2013 & 2011), this type of home may have seemed like a distant dream. With technology taking a huge leap in the last few years, these types of homes are already in the works. Let’s hope that with all of the new smart homes that we are creating that they do not turn out like these!
